While I cannot say that I would truly care too much if they changed the background color of my inventory....seriously people, it's called "full screen gamma"...it's under options on the Graphics tab...adjust slider accordingly until you can see your black mask. It's really not that complicated or much of a problem. They already have shading and lighting applied to the slots....but apparently everyone has their gamma set so low that it isnt visible.

Now as for the warning about deleting a character that still has items in inventory? /signed.....I did delete something I wanted simply because I was in a hurry to free up the slot and forgot that it was still holding a gold weapon I wanted to keep.

Are you telling me to set my monitor to a even higher brighter setting so that my sensitive eyes burn and permanently damage the nerves in the name of playing a game? Yes, it is too sensitive for my eyes to set the gamma even higher, because not only do the dark dungeons get brighter, but so do the intensely bright areas like beaches get brighter. I'd rather not do that.

Yes, /signed.
Another item that's too dark is Urgoz's Flatbow.

I think this makes a lot of sense. I've been so worried about accidentally losing/salvaging/selling some of my black items such as the mini moa and my elite druid armor just because they're hard to see. Now granted I can somewhat see them and hover over them, but I don't see a problem with adding a glow or something to black items.

Sure some may say just don't dye it black, but some things like the mini moa come that way, and some people like maybe even just one item black. A whole set of black armor, yeah that would get...weird, but whatever floats your boat. I still see no reason this should be a problem.

Maybe you should get away from the monitor for a while....seriously if your eyes are really being effected you may have a real issue.

But remember that brightness and gamma are not the same thing...tho increasing gamma does make things appear brighter. If possible you could try turning up gamma in game and turning down the screen brightness. FYI mine is not set to default settings.

And btw....yes I have had black items in my storage...I guess I just don't have any problem seeing them.

Look at the majority vote though...and I'm also almost four feet away from my monitor.

Screenshot to be added on the OP to show an example of how to fix it.

Some people amaze me they should look closely at their attitudes because they are coming accross as the I am ok so I don't give a ------ about anyone else.

What else accounts for comments like "I can see it get glasses"

I have Lorrelle's longbow in my inventory, Its black on a black background, yes there is a slight outline and it can be made out if you really look.
Btw for those with Normal eyesight its between the other 2 bows in my inventory

If I turn the gamma or contrast right up to 100 I can make it out better but then that's not the recommended setting your supposed to set it so that white appears as white and not grey while still having black show correctly.

Bottom line is you can see it now we cannot if they alter the colour you will still see it and so will we.

While your being insensitive to those with imperfect eyesight don't forget to have a go at the deaf too they will love your comments esp if you speak quietly because you can hear what you say.

Thank you. Probably one of the most sensible arguments said in this entire thread.

I agree with the OP. These should be brighter.

But I also agree with others saying to get away from the computer. if your eyes are that sensitive, and it's not genetic, you should spend more time outside and become accustomed to brighter environments. Turn lights on around you so the screen isn't such strong contrast to the background.

This won't solve the problem that the difference between the item icon and the inventory background is so minor that dark/black items just get lost. Gamma won't help that...because the pixels on the screen are displaying such similar shades that the change in gamma will just make them blend in anyway, whether it's dark or surface-of-the-sun bright.

So rather than make adjustments using the means that you have to be certain that you can enjoy the game....you prefere to complain that the game isn't made right....black against black is hard to see....imagine that.

If you go back and read my first post....you will see that it would not bother me if they changed it....I was simply making a case for trying to fix or adjust yourself first before clammoring for a rewrite of the game code. It seems as though some people just want others to do things for them. But I suppose I am being insensitive that way.

BTW Gremlin...I was refering to the in-game gamma correction....which only effects the game...once you exit it the settings return to what they are normally for other applications.

If you mess with gamme correction, you cahnge the whole screen.

The problems comes with the icons getting 'merged' with the background due to similar colors.

If you change gamme, you won't get the items in inventory have a different tone of dark, because they have too similar ones.

On top of that, too much gamma breaks the overall picture.

As you said, black over black is had to see, because no change in video controls will make some items have a different shade of black than the background.

Yes ... messing with gamma correction changes the whole screen. I wouldn't say it "breaks" the picture. Am I the only one who noticed the inventory screens are transparent? I'm sorry if that seems insensitive but if I was having difficulty seeing an object I would just spin until it was against a brighter background. But then we want a solution that involves programming time for the devs don't we?

I'm not sure why I don't seem to have any problems with this like everyone else posting here....maybe it's because I spent a lot on my monitor....or because I took the time to find an acceptable setting in my options panel.

Despite the polls appearance....I doubt very much that it represents anything but a small fraction of those playing the game...and thus I propose that most players really don't have a problem with it.

Actually icons are transparent too, but as I've said, the Inventory panel is NOT the problem. It's the BACKGROUND.

There are many, many areas where getting a bright spot is almost impossible. Have you ever been in the Catacombs or Echovald?

This is Sardelact, remember? People are bothere of something, and post it.

And no. I usually check suggestions with people in-game, and there is a lot of people that find this issue annoying.

I appreciate that and if I move the in game gamma in stages all the way to maximum at no point does the item become more visible.
Even when the game is so bright its like looking straight into a spotlight its no clearer.
Of course there are many differences apart from eyesight graphics cards and monitor quality are important too.

My short range vision is impaired it began to become so around age 45 and at 58 I need glasses to focus on the monitor.
That said the only problems I get is red or blue writing on black that's very hard to focus on, everything else is fine.

I was also only attempting "perhaps badly" to take to task those who deserved it
Many comments where indeed helpful.

I have of course fiddled with the settings of monitor graphics card game settings and room lighting to improve the situation and will continue to do so if I find an answer that works for me I will pass it on.

Gamma makes the whites whiter. I think it's dumb because if youre dying anything black and misplace it in an inventory and accidentally delete it, you're dumb. Period.

If youre complaining that it's hard to see and that you don't want to spend 2 seconds looking for it, well, I wouldn't mind if they had a changable color background with the any color in the universe selectable for your inventory... or UI for that matter.

Just so long as it's hidden and I never ever see it, because knowing me I'll tinker with it, like the old way and never get it back to normal.
